While this book is lighthearted and unserious at times, it is still very much a DARK romantasy. It contains murder, stabbing, shooting, mentions of sexual assault and rape (never depicted, only referenced), misogyny, and brief mentions of homophobia. The characters also swear... like pirates, because they are pirates. Mentions to being whipped and punished. BDSM dynamics, mutual voyeurism, and explicit sex are also depicted on page. Attempted murder, physical violence and fighting, alcoholism, human trafficking, kidnapping, abuse and depictions of grief are prevalent through out the story.
